(Swedish-American, 1871-1954)  Born in Sweden, Sven Birger Sandzén was a printmaker, painter, and teacher. Known mostly for his paintings, Sandzén’s style is unusual in its thick application of impasto in bold and bright color combinations, interpreting the landscape of the western United States. His lithographs were often gestural drawings done as studies to his later paintings. Sandzén taught at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. He belonged to New York Watercolor Club; California Watercolor Society; Philadelphia Watercolor Club; Prairie Print Makers; Prairie Water Color Painters; Chicago Society of Etchers; Smoky Hill Art Club; Taos Society of Artists(Associate Member). His work is in collections throughout U.S. and Europe.
